JED videos online

By popular request, the online version of the Job Explorer Database now includes JED’s career videos. So licensed users accessing JED from the internet can get over 200 great job videos, just like you get with the installed version.

If you were holding back from adding videos to your JED licence, now is a great time to get them. The video pack is just £20 extra, for your whole school or college. Contact Careersoft to try them, or look at the videos for medical photographer or zoo keeper which are available in any version of JED.

Also new this year are bigger widescreen videos. So even at full size on a whiteboard, you get great video quality that everyone can enjoy.

And the winner is...

You may remember from our last newsletter that Ann Starkie had been nominated for a National Career Award, for her World of Work project. Well, we’re absolutely thrilled that she won.

The project featured Careersoft’s First Jed as the way in which students found out about various jobs. Congratulations to Ann on a great result.

Adaptive logic for career matching

JED’s interest-matching quizzes for careers suggestions were thoroughly revised for 2010/11, and we’re getting good feedback from users.

Screenshot from JED's big quiz JED’s ‘big quiz’ has 55 questions that are within a typical student’s experience. No high- level questions about aptitude for driving or financial transactions. Just straightforward questions like ‘would you like a job where you work outdoors’, and ‘do you enjoy maths.’

JED asking an extra questionFor those students for whom even 55 questions in one go might be too much, there is JED’s ‘quick quiz.’ This starts with just 16 questions, but then JED continues to ask users a question at a time as they browse various jobs.

The results of a JED quizAdaptive logic in the Job Explorer Database means that at each stage it asks the best question for that user, based on their answers so far.

Perfect for showing on a large screen in your Connexions Centre or reception area, or even for students in the dinner queue. It can be used with or without sound, and on a loop.

Watch it on Careersoft's YouTube channel, or contact us and we'll be happy to send it to you as a DVD or as a HD video file (free for all JED subscribers).
