Job Explorer Database
The multimedia Job Explorer Database (JED) makes careers information lively, engaging, and informative. It is suitable for a wide range of ages and abilities, and contains a wealth of information on over 830 jobs (1900 career titles).
Behind JED is a working philosophy that careers education and guidance is interesting when we tap into the user's natural sense of curiosity. JED has a 'get clicking' attitude and lots of pathways through the program, with quizzes, 'top tens', career facts of the day, videos, pictures and text.
JED makes no assumptions about the user's prior knowledge, and the concise written style and vocabulary is designed to make it accessible to a wide range of users.
JED's carefully planned quizzes take minutes to do, not hours, so that users can get on with exploring careers and thinking about what will and won't suit them. JED asks additional questions as the user progresses through the program, building up a picture of the user's likes, dislikes, talents, abilities and disabilities. JED then reflects this information back to the user, to encourage them to think about what they might look for in a career.
JED also includes First Jed, designed to appeal to users in Year 7 and up, and suitable for use with some special needs groups.
