Using Careersoft products from the Internet

Many Careersoft products can be used from the Internet without installing anything. This applies to the following products:

In all cases other than JED, the Internet version is identical to the installed version. For JED, the videos and the localising (ability to add your own pages to JED) appear in the installed version only but are not available in the Internet version.

Creating your own private URL

To use the product from the Internet, you need to create your own private URL. A URL is a web link. Your own private URL has a special sequence of letters and numbers in it which identifies it as belonging to you, so that you can use the products for which you are licensed.

To create your private URL, go the the online products start page and click on the product that you want to use. Then follow the link for the 'Link Maker'.

Enter your Establishment Name and Authorisation Code for that product when prompted. These are provided in your licensing letter when you subscribe to the product and when you renew it.

If prompted with a question about dynamic and static IP addresses, answer 'Dynamic' if not sure. See the notes on that page for more details.

The link maker page will now create your own private URL (web address) for accessing the product. Any time you visit that link, the Careersoft web servers will know that it is your institution accessing it, and provide access to the products for which you are licensed. You do not need to update your link when the product is updated - your link always takes you to the most up-to-date version of that product.

Please see the page about publishing your links for information on how you might make that link available to your users.

Important note

Your private URL is only for use by your institution and only on your premises. Please don't put your private URL on externally-available websites or otherwise make it available outside of your premises. If it is detected that the private URL is being used from a variety of places, that link may be disabled.

You can re-visit the Link Maker page at any time to re-generate your private URL with different values in it if you want. Your previous private URL will then stop being usable.
