No button for deleting JED treasure hunts
Symptoms
On the details page for any treasure hunt game, there should be a red 'Delete' button to delete this treasure hunt game. With JED 2009/10 (released summer 2009) on computers using Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6, this button does not show.
Applies to
This occurs only where all three of the following conditions apply
- JED 2009/10 release (published summer 2009), v1.4.3476.23954 (is fixed in later versions)
- Installed versions of JED (i.e. does not apply to the internet version)
- Client computer is using Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6 (does not occur with later versions of Internet Explorer, or with Firefox or other makes of browser)
Cause
This problem is due to the way in which Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6 displays web pages. It does not occur in Microsoft Internet Explorer version 7 (released October 2006) and later versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer. It does not occur in Firefox and other browsers.
Resolution
Please install the latest edition of JED (2010/11). Contact Careersoft if you do not have the latest CD and require a replacement.
Workarounds
Installing the latest edition of JED fixes the problem (recommended).
If you are unable to upgrade to the latest edition immediately (perhaps due to not having network rights for installing software), the following workarounds can help with this problem:
- The Delete button is wrongly displayed at the bottom right of the treasure hunt details page. If you maximise your browser to make it full height, you may be able to see some or all of the red Delete button at the bottom right of the page, and click on it.
- Upgrading to a later version of Microsoft Internet Explorer will fix this problem. Users who have Windows Automatic Updates enabled (recommended) are offered updates to Microsoft Internet Explorer automatically. Currently (July 2009), Microsoft Internet Explorer version 8 is being offered as a 'critical update' for Windows users. Accepting this update will fix this problem. Or, to get Microsoft's latest security and usability updates without using Windows Automatic Updates, visit windowsupdate.microsoft.com, follow the instructions for updating your computer, and choose Microsoft Internet Explorer from the list of available updates.
