Creating a URL shortcut

If you are familiar with creating shortcuts to .exe files and then copying these to users' Desktops or Start menus, this similar method may prove useful to you.

  1. Use Microsoft Internet Explorer from a computer on your network to browse to the product, using your preferred URL for linking to it.
  2. Resize your browser so that you can see the computer Desktop behind it.
  3. Look at the address bar of Internet Explorer. To the left of the address (which begins with 'http://') is a small product icon. Drag this icon to the Desktop.
  4. This creates a product icon on your Desktop. You can right-click it to rename it if you want to.
  5. The Desktop shortcut you have just created can be copied (right-click copy, or drag it) to any place where you might use any other program shortcut, like the user's Desktop or Start menu (RM CC3 users can add this shortcut to their 'Shortcut Bank'). When the user double-clicks this link, their browser will start up and point to the URL contained within that link.
