An introduction to the enquiry routes in Higher Ideas

Lesson

To introduce students to the different ways of searching Higher Ideas.

Context

Many students using software for the first time need a guide to the features and routes through a program to ensure that they understand what the program can and cannot do.

Learning outcomes

Students will be able to describe the different enquiry routes in Higher Ideas.

Students will be able to explain how the program fits into their process of making Higher Education choices.

Level

These resources are suitable for students Y9 to Y12 who may be capable of study in Higher Education.

Resources

Higher Ideas and appropriately selected copies of the student activity sheets below. Once printed the student activity sheets should be folded to hide the answers until the activity is complete. Each of the activity sheets is available as a pdf file and as a Word document for further editing:

Starter

Ask the students to list the resources currently available in the establishment to help them choose higher education courses. These may include people as well as books and software/Internet-based resources.

Main

In order to gain an insight into the Higher Ideas program, students will try the different types of searches to see what can be found out. They should be encouraged to read the information behind the Help buttons on each screen.

Plenary

Ask the students to explain where Higher Ideas would fit into the range of other HE resources available.

Extension Activity

Where available students can obtain their individual codes to use the resource from home.
