Lesson
To enable students to become competent at moving around JED.
Context
Students using a program for the first time may be more likely to remember their way around it if, having been introduced to it, they can play a game in competition with others to find information.

Students can competently navigate their way around JED.
Level
Average and below average ability students.

Access to the JED program and a grid to collect answers.

This activity contributes to the following learning outcomes, KS3 learning outcome 9.
Starter
Class contribute answers to the following questions: List four jobs where people wear uniforms. List four jobs where you work shifts.
Main
JED provides lots of information about jobs, especially in the pictures. Use the pictures in JED to identify four jobs:-
- where people wear uniforms
- done outside
- that need telephone skills
- where you talk to customers
- where you work shifts
- where you need to be fit
- where you work on your own
- that involve travelling
For each picture write the job title and the caption, as evidence that you have actually found it.
First group/pair/individual to finish in the winner.
Plenary
List all the types of information that can be found in JED.
Extension Activity
Students could devise their own 'Treasure Hunt' through JED and exchange it with someone else in the group.
